Electron losses in hypersonic flows

چکیده
The first comprehensive study of electron gains and losses in hypersonic air flows including the full coupling between non-neutral plasma sheaths quasi-neutral flow is here presented. Such made possible by use advanced numerical methods that overcome stiffness associated with sheaths. sheaths, temperature non-equilibrium, ambipolar diffusion within found to be critical predict accurately and, thus, density around vehicles. This because cooling coming from affects significantly everywhere therefore, electron-temperature-dependent loss processes dissociative recombination. Results obtained show surface due catalyticity dominates over recombination either (i) at high altitude where dynamic pressure low, or (ii) low Mach number, (iii) when vehicle has a sharp leading edge.

Electron Air Hypersonic Propulsion
Aviation, in general, and aerospace in particular needs new propulsion systems which allow the craft to reach high speeds by cheaper and more efficient methods. Author offers a new propulsion system using electrons for acceleration of the craft and having a high efficiency. As this system does not heat the air, it does not have the heating limitations of conventional air ramjet hypersonic engin...
متن کاملPredicting continuum breakdown in hypersonic viscous flows
This paper presents a study of the breakdown of the Navier–Stokes equations in hypersonic viscous flows over a sharp cone tip and a hollow cylinder/flare geometry. Investigations are performed through detailed comparisons of the numerical results obtained with continuum and particle techniques. The objective of the study is to predict conditions under which the continuum approach may be expecte...

متن کاملHypersonic Flows About a 25° Sharp Cone
This paper presents the results of a numerical study that examines the surface heating discrepancies observed between computed and measured values along a sharp cone. With Mach numbers of an order of 10 and the free-stream length Reynolds number of an order of 10 000, the present computations have been made with the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method by using the G2 code of Bird. The o...
